For prose and nonfiction, proofreading services are $1/page, based on an industry-standard average calculation of 250 words per page. Book-length works traditionally clock in around 60,000 words or above.
For screenplays, the rate is $.45/page. The traditional length of a screenplay is 90-120 pages.
For editorial services, those rates are negotiated on a case-by-case basis. For reference, the difference between “copyediting” and editorial is that copyediting helps conform a manuscript to a standard usage, something like the AP Stylebook or the standards that a magazine or newspaper puts in place to ensure consistency in all of their articles, while an editor performs a more collaborative role in helping a writer hone his or her writing, story, or its telling.
